Hello! My First Name Is Distance
Hello! My First Name Is Distance
Acrylic on Board
I was sketching while watching a movie, and listening to music... I know, right? Great multi-tasker haha! I drew an eye with long eye lashes like hair flowing below it. I then thought it would be cool if they were tentacles, so naturally the next one I drew, did. So that's how I came up with the eye monster. I painted the first one on my 'Full Collapse' painting and liked it so much I had to do another. It kind of reminds me of a movie, The Mirror Mask. Go watch it, it's amazing! I took the name for this painting from lyrics of the song: Mercury Rising by the band, From Autumn To Ashes. If you don't see the inner meaning of this painting, just listen to that song... But I like the thought of "Dandelions", how in some cultures they're considered a vegetable, and here in the USA they are considered a weed. We all look at something and see it completely different. I see great beauty in seeding dandelions, I've just decided if I were to have a favorite flower, that would be it! But I don't. So, so that's that.

Featuring guest Artist Quinn Rogers!
Full Collapse took over a year and a half to finish. It's my most thought through painting to date. It's basically my whole life on one board. My daughter who often paints/draws with me inspired more than a few aspects of the painting. While I was finishing it, she had drawn a robot version of me holding hands with her and she duplicated the bird on my shoulder. It was so cool that I just had to have her draw and color on this painting. What better way to wrap up my self portrait!!?? I took the name from my favorite album from the band Thursday.
